- Kaizer Chiefs marketing boss Jessica Motaung and Jazzman Mahlakgane are fighting about a car sponsorship deal
- Tshabalala was given a Lexus by a sponsor but the club is demanding he drives a Toyota
- Mahlakgane is claims the club have no right to dictate which car Tshabalala is allowed to drive
Kaizer Chiefs star Siphiwe Tshabalala is in the middle of a war between his agent and one of his bosses over who owns the rights to use his image.
The club’s marketing manager Jessica Motaung instructed Tshabalala to stop driving a Lexus he received as part of a personal sponsorship deal and to drive a Toyota as per the deal between the car company and Kaizer Chiefs.
Tshabalala’s agent Jazzman Mahlakgane reportedly “blew his lid” when he heard about this instruction and claims that the club has no right to force Tshabalala into driving a car that he does not want to drive.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Mahlakgane says that no club in South Africa owns the image rights to any player. He says clubs in South Africa mistakenly believe that once they have signed a player they own his soul.
Ghafla.com reports that Mahlakgane and Motaung held a series of highly charged meetings in the hopes of coming to some sort of agreement but insiders say these meetings all ended in more hostilities between the two.
Mahlakgane has now resorted to roping in the services of Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung. He hopes that Bobby will act as a mediator between the aggrieved parties.
Mahlakgane is willing to take the matter to court if the parties fail to reach an agreement.
