Legendary South African band Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been nominated in two categories for the 2018 Grammy Awards.
The group cracked the nod for Best World Music award with Shaka Zulu Revisited: 30th Anniversary Celebration and Best Children's Album for Songs of Peace & Love for Kids & Parents around the World.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo are no strangers to the Grammy Awards having won their first Grammy in 1988 and have since then collected another 3 of the top honours in music. The band has been nominated 15 times in the past.
Briefly.co.za discovered that Ladysmith Black Mambazo was also nominated for an Academy Award and an Emmy Awards for their documentary On Tiptoe: Gentle Steps to Freedom in 2001.
The band has proven to be one of South Africa’s most successful musical exports and has in recent years taken to teaching people around the world about South Africa and its amazing culture.
Eyewitness News reports that the 2018 Grammy Award nominations were dominated by artists from the Hip Hop and R&B genres. The big battle for 2018 wins is expected to be between Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar.
Jay-Z received eight nominations.
The 2018 Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place in New York City on 28 January 2018.
